According to Chinese net portal NetEase, the highly speculated ‘iPad Mini’ is set to launch in the third quarter of 2012 and will be priced at either $249 or $299. The main purpose of the device is to put all the upcoming Windows 8 tablets to bed even before they come out.
Pegatron – Apple’s device assembling unit – is also said to assemble a total of 6 million units for the launch in collaboration with Apple’s primary device assembler Foxconn.
Looking at the price claim of $249, it is safe to say that Apple is also targeting Amazon’s Kindle Fire which has controlled the most low-end tablet market since it’s launch.
As the word has it, the ‘iPad Mini’ will have a 7.85-inch screen with a resolution of 1024×768, this would allow developers (and themers of the jailbreak community) run applications and themes that were written/created for the first iPad and the iPad 2. The width is speculated to be the same as the current iPad, which is a little bit thicker than its predecessor.
So what do you guys think about the ‘Mini iPad’, will it end the race once and for all or will the move back-fire?
