iOS 5.1.1 Released

Apple yesterday released iOS 5.1.1 (build number 9B206).

iOS 5.1.1 is available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4th generation, iPod Touch 3rd generation, the original iPad, iPad 2 and the new iPad (iPad 3).

According to the release notes, iOS 5.1.1 includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

  • Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
  • Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
  • Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
  • Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
  • Fixes an issue where ‘Unable to purchase’ alert could be displayed after successful purchase

Unfortunately, there is no mention about bug fixes for battery life issues reported by users.

As usual, jailbreakers should avoid updating to iOS 5.1.1 and also don’t forget to take a backup of SHSH blobs and BBTickets.

You can go ahead and download iOS 5.1.1 firmware from our downloads page.

Cydia April Fooled me… :@

Update: I was April Fooled by Cydia! :P

Yes you heard it right Cydia has been changed a little bit, this is no update to Cydia, today in fact just now when I reloaded Cydia to see if any cool new tweaks arrived, I noticed on the HomeScreen there was no mention of the blobs that Cydia had saved for me, then when I looked to navigate to the changes tab I saw there was nothing known as “changes” instead there was something known as “Timeline”.

What Timeline does is, it adds a small translucent bar above the date showing a few promoted Cydia themes, and when you click on them they take you right to the theme so that you can purchase/install. But the sad part is, the first one I saw was of Justin Bieber (just trolling but I’m totally serious about the Justin Bieber thing :P).

Anyway, this change has been a silent one has I doubt anyone knew about it.

As of now I have been able to spot only 3 upgrades:

  1. Cydia does not show the blobs on the Home page until you tap reload
  2. The changes tab was upgraded to Timeline
  3. There is a promotion bar for various themes/tweaks (I have not yet seen a tweak link, so I’m not sure about tweaks) in the Timeline tab

As a matter of fact I had noticed Cydia not showing me my blobs a few days ago to which I had created a troll meme:

But I did not really know if it was a change to Cydia but thought there was something wrong with mine, but now I think it’s a change… I don’t really know why was it required.

I understand the Timeline thing and the promotion thing but not the hidden blobs thing. (Too many “thing” eh?) :P

So let me know what you guys think about these minor changes in the comments section below.

Also let me know if you guys see some other change made to Cydia.

Restore iDevice To A Backup From A Newer Version Of iOS [TUTORIAL]

Here’s a sweet tutorial which will help those of you downgrading from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 while restoring to 5.1′s backup.

I stumbled on to this loophole while downgrading my iPhone 4, follow the steps below, and it should work for you.

NOTE:- This requires an old backup.

Step 1:-

Restore your phone.

Step 2:-

Select an old backup, and select “Restore from Backup”

Step 3:-

iTunes will prompt you to restore to the newest backup available. Allow it to do so. iTunes, in some way bypasses itself, and voila! It restores to your backup from 5.1.

Note that I was able to do this while using iTunes 10.6 and while downgrading to 5.0.1, from 5.1. This should work for all other devices, too.

Review: Angry Birds Space

You might have recently read my post about why I think Angry Birds is one of the best games on iOS. Nearly 2 weeks ago, Angry Birds Space was announced by Rovio and we were even told NASA was involved in it. In my last post about Angry Birds, I said that I didn’t like it because it was the same thing over and over again. Well in Angry Birds Space, that changes.

With Angry Birds Space, the gameplay most have come to love has changed. Now, physics comes into play a lot more with no gravity and gravity affected fields in the levels. As seen in the screenshots above, a lot has changed. The birds got a makeover and there is 1 new bird. That blue squared bird converts blocks into ice.

I encountered some problems with the game. First I couldn’t open it. I somehow fixed that problem but the, while I’m playing it would constantly crash. I was able to solve my problem by deleting the app, re-downloading it and then rebooting. unfortunately, I lost all my data (If you follow me on twitter you could see how mad I was with Rovio).

You can buy Angry Birds space for $0.99 in iTunes. A part of me recommends it because it is fun and the gameplay changed, but another part of me doesn’t recommend it because of all the crashing I got. Let me know how the game plays for you and if you liked it.

Deleting Images In PhotoStream Is Now Possible

The Newest software update by Apple to iOS 5.1 is not as engrossing as everyone had expected, most people were disappointed at the fact that it only added Siri in the Japanese language and a few wallpapers.

But as it so happened while I was reading the change log I came across the second point in it which drew all my attention.

And the point was:

Photos can now be deleted from PhotoStream

When PhotoStream was released with the iCloud everyone was a bit disappointed that we could not delete images from PhotoStream, people were more cautious about what pictures they clicked as it would directly be uploaded to the cloud and eventually would be pushed to the person’s other iDevices. That means, if someone had clicked a picture which they did not want to share, they were helpless as the pictures and images would be shared no matter what, that was disappointing but now with the new iOS 5.1 you can actually delete the images from PhotoStream.

This is the only feature in the iOS 5.1 which has drawn my attention and is urging me to update to iOS 5.1 but as I don’t want to lose my jailbreak I will wait until the exploit is released.

iPhoto In The New iPad

Alongside the third generation iPad and a new Apple TV, Apple showcased a number of apps that took advantage of the improved hardware of the new iPad. One of them was iPhoto for iOS, which brings advanced photo editing capabilities to the iPad, using touch based gestures.

Some noteworthy features:

  • You can double tap an image, and iPhoto selects similar images in your library, which you can then compare side by side.
  • Multi-touch editing: You can manipulate image properties using your fingers, by dragging up, down, left or right. The app detects blue skies, greenery and skin tones, which can then be modified easily. It also has the ability to “straighten” an image using automatic horizon detection.

The iOS 5.1

Apple today during their keynote announced the anticipated iOS 5.1. The only things that the iOS 5.1 gives us is Siri in the Japanese language and new wallpapers apart from that I did not find anything cool about the iOS 5.1. As a matter of fact there is nothing cool abut the iOS 5.1 unless and until you are from Japan. There might be some other features which Apple has not told us about but if there are any such fears stay tuned with us as we will notify you as and when anything new is stumbled upon.

iOS 5.1 is out now and is available for download.

It is available for the iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 3G. Additionally, Apple released iOS 5.0 for the Apple TV 3, and Apple TV 2.
