Downgrade from iPad baseband will be possible in the near future

If you are an iPhone 3G/3GS user and are officially unlocked but stuck on the iPad baseband and are frustrated by the fact that you cannot use GPS, then you should start waiting for the day when the next update to Redsn0w hits the market since it will allow you to downgrade the iPad baseband.

MuscleNerd, the developer of the legendary jailbreak tool – Redsn0w, just now tweeted:

A month or two ago, there was a heavy discussion between i0n1c and MuscleNerd about downgrading your baseband. i0n1c was telling his followers that it is impossible to do so, while MuscleNerd replied saying that it was perfectly possible to downgrade the iPad baseband. Then like always i0n1c felt hurt and started his usual tantrums, anyway leave that for another time. So what I wanted to point out is that, this is most likely going to feature soon and will once again silence i0n1c.

Note: I won’t be able to post any replies by i0n1c since he has blocked me on twitter. (An achievement :P)

Update #1: MuscleNerd just posted another tweet, saying that this will allow you to downgrade to any prior baseband, preferably you would like to downgrade to 5.13.04 since it will allow you to keep your ultrasn0w unlock as well as allow you to use GPS.

What is your take on this?

Obviously this feature will be added to the next update to Redns0w, so tay tuned with us for more info at iOS Jedi Blog or join our Facebook fan page or Follow us on Twitter or subscribe to the RSS feeds or connect with us on our Freenode-IRC channel for any iOS question you have.

Redsn0w 0.9.10b8b released…

The popular jailbreaking tool Redsn0w has been updated yet again to version 0.9.10b8b with support to make the zip files more compatible with the native Windows explorer (which doesn’t like leading slashes in the filenames).

In the previous version that is 0.9.10b8 there was a new feature added which allowed you to save your SAM unlock.

To do so all you need to do is open Redsn0w, Extras > Even More > Backup. This will backup your activation records from /var/root/Library/Lockdown.

You can get the latest Redsn0w from our downloads page.

Unlocking The iPhone Using SAM

A new unlock method has been discovered that works on every iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S running iOS 5, iOS 5.0.1 and even iOS 5.1 with any baseband. All you need is a jailbroken iPhone.

Here is a step by step guide:

  • Assuming your iPhone is jailbroken and ready to go…
  • Open Cydia and add the repo “” and then search for “SAM” by sbingner and install it
  • Tap on the orange SAMPrefs icon that looks like a SIM card to launch the app
  • Tap “Utilities” and select “De-Activate iPhone”, tap “OK” when the deactivation notification pops up
  • Now tap “Method” and tap on “By Country and Carrier”
  • Tap “Country” and select the country the iPhone is locked to
  • Tap “Carrier” and choose the origin carrier the iPhone is locked to
  • Tap “More Information” and tap the IMSI number found under “SAM Details”
  • Tap on “Spoof Real SIM to SAM”
  • Tap back to the primary SAM setting screen, and paste the IMSI number into IMSI
  • Connect the iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes, letting iTunes reactive the iPhone
  • Disconnect the iPhone from the computer and quit iTunes, then tap on “SAMPrefs” again and flip the “Enabled” switch so that SAM is disabled
  • Relaunch iTunes and connect the iPhone to the computer yet again, ignore the “failed to activate” message and quit and relaunch iTunes again
  • Wait a minute or two and the iPhone should get a signal from the new carrier, it’s now unlocked and activated
NOTE: The repo might be down for most of the people due to heavy load.

The downside to the SAM unlock method is that it requires a jailbreak, that means if you lose your jailbreak you lose the unlock. If you don’t want to jailbreak or you can’t for some reason, you can officially unlock an iPhone by calling up your carrier and asking them to do so.

This method is found by Lokhtar_Sun and is being said that Apple is very likely to fix this soon, so if you are depending on an unlock… go ahead and complete all the steps in the tutorial.

Let me know what do you think about SAM unlock.

Ultrasn0w Fixer

Have you updated to iOS 5.1? Have you lost your unlock on doing so (obviously), well if you are jailbroken on iOS 5.1 using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze and if you have an unlock able baseband then you can unlock your A4 devices using Ultrasn0w Fixer.

The list of supported basebands are: 01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.13.01, 05.12.01, 06.15.00. You can check your baseband by going to Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware.

Let’s get started:

  1. As this is not hosted on a default repo you will have to add a new repo, for doing this, open Cydia > Navigate to Manage > tap on Sources > Edit > Add , then in the pop-up type:
  2. Once you have added the repo, tap on it and you will see a single package there
  3. Tap on the package and hit install

After this you need to get the latest version of Ultrasn0w and then you are done, remember you need to be jailbroken on iOS 5.1 to do this.

Were you successful in doing so?

The Unlock For Baseband 4.11.08 In It’s Testing Stages

Laaadies and Gentlemen today I’am going to give you some very interesting news and guess what? It is pertaining to the unlock for baseband 4.11.08.
AppleNBerry (the company behind Gevey Sim Unlock) has announced on their Facebook Fan Page that their unlock for baseband 4.11.08 is in the final stages.
As you may know the current Gevey Sim unlock unlocks all iPhone 4 basebands except the 4.11.08.
The reason you have the 4.11.08 baseband is that you updated to iOS 5 without preserving the baseband with Redsn0w which cost you your unlock.
But no worries as AppleNBerry said their unlock is in the final stages and hopefully if all goes well, then we can expect another word from them about it.
Now this was concerning only the iPhone 4 users, so what about the 4S users? Well previously MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team had mentioned that the team is working on”a very promising unlock”. This may mean that we won’t see an ultrasn0w version of the unlock but we WILL have an unlock sooner or later. We do not have any precise ETA as yet so hold your horses and stay tuned with us for more news on the baseband unlock for 4.11.08.
