Launch, Close and Switch Between Apps With Awesome Animations Using DisplayCandy

A new tweak known as DisplayCandy showed up in Cydia and claims to add cool animations as and when you launch, close or switch between apps. It is a pretty sweet jailbreak tweak since it hosts some nice and smooth animations.

The tweak has three main categories – Launch animation, Close animation and Switch animation. All three host the same 12 styles of animations and provide the options to customise the directions of some animations while allowing you to set the speed of the animation too.

All in all DisplayCandy is a pretty nice tweak to make your phone look different from the monotonous blunt animation. Check out the video below for more details on DisplayCandy:

If you like the feel of these animations then you can go ahead and purchase DisplayCandy for $2 from Cydia under the BigBoss repo.

Personally I feel the ripple effect is why I love DisplayCandy. My launch animation is set to Curl, Close animation as Ripple and Switch animation as Push. How have you set your animations?

HackStore – Cydia For Mac

Since a long time we have been hearing rumors about Cydia for Mac and now finally it has been released calling itself the HackStore.

Before I continue enlightening you about the HackStore, there is something I like about it and that is its motto, “No Piracy Apps Here Forever And Ever”. The piracy issue has been driving everyone crazy, Cydia has many pirate  re which provide all the paid tweaks/themes for free and just pour water on all the hard work done by the dev. If the HackStore can prevent this then it will surely be a good place for Mac OS developers to upload their apps.

Here’s what the developers behind HackStore have to say about their new application:

This program for us is the epitome of Cydia for iOS, but on a Mac OS. This means that in our app will be applications and tweaks for Mac OS, which is not in the Mac AppStore, or for any reason they have not posted there.

The biggest Mac Appstore problem is that they limit their users in everything, without giving an opportunity to expand these limits. This is not correct, because  ONLY users should decide which applications they should install and which one do not.

We think, HackStore, it is a break through the narrow confines of Mac Appstore. A lot of good applications should be created and promoted but if they will never come to AppStore they will be not popular at all, so we have created HackStore!

The motto of our application - «No piracy apps here, forever and ever», so the cracked and piracy apps I am the HackStore application developer. This program for me is the epitome of Cydia for iOS, but on a Mac OS. This means that in our app will be applications and tweaks for Mac OS, which is not in the Mac AppStore, or for any reason they have not posted there.

HackStore seems to have copied the user interface of the Mac App Store, so you won’t take much trouble using the app.

Now you must be wondering “Was Saurik the one who created the HackStore?”

Well here is what he has to say about it:

NO: if I were to release something, it would definitely be called “Cydia”. ;P To me, there is no reason to build something that Bodega easily services (you can even find jailbreaking tools, such as Seas0nPass in Bodega): the only thing that makes Cydia interesting is Substrate, so until and unless Substrate works on Mac you won’t see me spending time building a simple installer tool.

It is still early days for the HackStore as there are currently only 50+ apps in the Mac App Store. But it seems like a nice place for jailbreakers to download the latest jailbreak tools such as TinyUmbrella, ipswDownloader, iExplorer etc.

It looks like it has already generated quite a bit of interest as the HackStore was down at the time of publishing this post, so don’t be surprised if you see a grey screen after you launch the app. The developers are trying to fix the issue.

You can download the HackStore using this link.

Upgrade Your Mobile Substare…

A few hours ago when I looked at my phone, Curiosa gave me a banner notification saying “Mobile Substrate Updated”, naturally I opened Cydia and checked out what new features were added and I was really happy to see the new addition.

This upgrade is a must for everyone, because this will help you in case you ever (God forbid) get stuck in a respring/reboot loop.

The awesome feature that this upgrade provides is that you can disable Substrate completely by simply holding down the Volume Up button as the device boots. This new feature gives you the power to bypass any broken extensions that are preventing your device from booting. After you boot up with this in Safe Mode you can access Cydia and uninstall all the tweaks that you think might have caused it.

Saurik also took care of those people who are using devices without the Volume Up button (namely the first generation iPod Touch), you guys will need to hold down the “Clicker” button on your headset or earphones to execute this feature.

According to me this new feature is very useful as it will make it much easier to fix respring/reboot loops.

You can upgrade your MobileSubstrate to version 0.9.3997 via Cydia.

Let me know what you guys think about this cool new feature in the comments section below.

Cydia April Fooled me… :@

Update: I was April Fooled by Cydia! :P

Yes you heard it right Cydia has been changed a little bit, this is no update to Cydia, today in fact just now when I reloaded Cydia to see if any cool new tweaks arrived, I noticed on the HomeScreen there was no mention of the blobs that Cydia had saved for me, then when I looked to navigate to the changes tab I saw there was nothing known as “changes” instead there was something known as “Timeline”.

What Timeline does is, it adds a small translucent bar above the date showing a few promoted Cydia themes, and when you click on them they take you right to the theme so that you can purchase/install. But the sad part is, the first one I saw was of Justin Bieber (just trolling but I’m totally serious about the Justin Bieber thing :P).

Anyway, this change has been a silent one has I doubt anyone knew about it.

As of now I have been able to spot only 3 upgrades:

  1. Cydia does not show the blobs on the Home page until you tap reload
  2. The changes tab was upgraded to Timeline
  3. There is a promotion bar for various themes/tweaks (I have not yet seen a tweak link, so I’m not sure about tweaks) in the Timeline tab

As a matter of fact I had noticed Cydia not showing me my blobs a few days ago to which I had created a troll meme:

But I did not really know if it was a change to Cydia but thought there was something wrong with mine, but now I think it’s a change… I don’t really know why was it required.

I understand the Timeline thing and the promotion thing but not the hidden blobs thing. (Too many “thing” eh?) :P

So let me know what you guys think about these minor changes in the comments section below.

Also let me know if you guys see some other change made to Cydia.
