TinyUmbrella updated to 5.11.00b

Notcom a.k.a semaphore has released a new version of TinyUmbrella (5.11.00b) that allows iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to save SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1, that was released by Apple earlier in the week.

TinyUmbrella allows you to take backups of SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) that can be used to downgrade to older iOS versions even after Apple stops signing the iOS firmware file. It can come in handy if you end up accidentally upgrading to the latest version of iOS.

Until yesterday, it was possible to downgrade only iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 using the SHSH blobs saved using TinyUmbrella. But iPhone Dev team released a new version of Redns0w yesterday that also allows users to downgrade their iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3.

It’s very simple to save SHSH blobs. All you need to do is follow these steps:

  • Connect your iOS device to the computer
  • Install and then launch the latest version of TinyUmbrella (ensure it says v5.11.00 in the title)
  • Select your iOS device from the “Connected Devices” list
  • Then click on the “Save SHSH” button.

After the SHSH blobs are successfully saved, you should see your iOS device listed along with the iOS version that it is running on currently under the General section, which says Saved SHSHs.

Please note that your iOS device doesn’t need to be on iOS 5.1.1 to save SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1, so don’t waste any time and save the SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1. It also looks like Apple is still signing iOS 5.1 so you will be able to save SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1 as well, in case you haven’t save them already.

You can go ahead and download this new version of TinyUmbrella for Notcom’s blog:

Redsn0w updated to 0.9.11b2

Yesterday, iPhone Dev team released Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 that allowed users to downgrade their iPhone 4S and iPad 2 from iOS 5.1.1 or iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1.

However, they had inadvertently missed out including support for iOS 5.0.1 (build 9A406) – the tweaked version of iOS 5.0.1 that Apple had released to fix the “Unknown SIM”, “No SIM card installed” problem.

While there was a workaround to still use Redsn0w to use it with the  iOS 5.0.1 (build 9A406), iPhone Dev team has just released Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 to add support for iOS 5.0.1 (build 9A406).

Until yesterday, it was possible to downgrade only iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 using the SHSH blobs saved using TinyUmbrella.

But with Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 users can downgrade their iPhone 4S and iPad 2 from iOS 5.1.1 or iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 if they’ve saved the SHSH blobs for iOS 5.0.1.

Downgrading to iOS 5.0.1 will allow users to perform the untethered jailbreak using Absinthe jailbreak. Unfortunately, users who have recently purchased their iOS device that come pre-installed with iOS 5.1 won’t be able to downgrade as personalized SHSH blobs is required for the downgrade process. So even though Redsn0w supports the new iPad, it will allow users to downgrade from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.1 as it came pre-installed with iOS 5.1 (which means that they could only save SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1).

You can see this link for our tutorial on downgrading.

You can go ahead and download Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 from our downloads page.

Let me know if you have tried downgrading your devcice to 5.0.1 (9A406).

A5 devices might be able to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 in the near future!

We have some good news for all of you with iPad 2′s and iPhone 4S’, as you all know if you accidentally updated to iOS 5.1 there was no chance for you to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and be jailbroken. iOS 5.1 is not even tethered jailbroken for A5 devices so that means you’d have to stay without a jailbreak, but now iH8sn0w, the creator of sn0breeze, iFaith and iReb, sheds some light on everyone and tells us about his latest achievement regarding downgrading.

iH8sn0w tweeted:

Found a loophole in Apple’s apticket system. Restored my iPad 2 to 5.0.1 from 5.1. Works on all A5 devices. :)

A5X devices will work too once Apple pushes a new firmware for it.

BTW, This cannot be applied to basebands. Only iOS itself.

As of now you can only downgrade iPhone 3GS’, iPhone 4′s and iPad 1′s to iOs 5.0.1 and that to by using the SHSH blobs saved by TinyUmbrella or TinyCFW.

With this discovery it means that the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 (powered by A5 chip) and the new iPad (powered by the A5X chip) will be able to downgrade to previous iOS versions for a stable untethered jailbreak, till the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is not released. This is a very big achievement as Apple had made it very difficult to downgrade to previous iOS versions.

As of now I believe you will need to have the SHSH blobs to downgrade to 5.0.1.

iH8sn0w has said that he will not shed any more light on this matter and will keep it confidential until he completes all his tests.

Are you one of those who accidentally updated to the worthless iOS 5.1?
