Tweetbot updated with iCloud integration

I usually don’t write about App Store apps, it’s always about tweaks etc… but this is special. Tweetbot, the best Twitter client for an iPhone, much better even than the Twitter app itself, went through an update and it has added a few cool and unique features.

Tapbot have now added iCloud support to Tweetbot, which will keep the Timeline positions, Direct messages (DMs) and mute filters in sync across all instances of Tweetbot running on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

Here are all the new features:

  • iCloud Integration (must be logged into iCloud)
  • Mute filters synced across instances of Tweetbot
  • DM read status synced across all instances of Tweetbot when iCloud is selected for sync
  • Timeline positions are synced, this means that if you scroll on your iPhone and wait for a few second it’ll automatically scroll on your iPad (pretty cool eh?)
  • Better handling of iTunes links across thumbnail previews
  • YouTube links provide thumbnail previews (much awaited)
  • Pinch to close image on iPad
  • Minor bug fixes

It is great to see developers like Tapbots take their apps to the next level using new features available in iOS in their own unique and innovative way. Tweetbot was already the Gold standard for Twitter apps, with the iCloud sync feature, it will be even more difficult for users to give this app a miss.

You can get the updated version from within the AppStore under the updates tab, if you already have purchased it. If not then you will have to purchase it for $2.99 on the iPhone and as well as the iPad.

More details about the iTweak Store released

They first time I heard about the iTweak Store, I didn’t really think it’d surpass Cydia but now that more details have been released I’m looking forward to using iTweak a lot. For those that don’t know what the iTweak Store is, it is an upcoming jailbreak tweak store that looks forward to being better than Cydia. We didn’t know more than that until earlier today when the website was updated with more details about iTweak.

User Friendly

iTweak claims to give a much simpler UI than other package managers.

Full Debian APT

Just like Cydia, iTweak will use the now well know Debian APT for package managing.

Universal iOS Support

All iOS versions will be supported, along with every iOS device (including 1st generation devices).

Uses Mobile Safari

Instead of installing iTweak, iTweak will be based off of the web. You can install iTweak as a web app, bookmark it, or run it off of MobileSafari anytime. With increased security measures, you won’t get malware.

The iTweak Store has so much more features, it’s best you read all of them at their website. It’s going to be interesting to see how iTweak will work… you know? With those PC & Mac clients.  At iOS Jedi blog, we’ve signed up for beta testing/reviewing so if we’re granted beta access, we’ll be able to let you know how iTweak is.

iPad vs iPad 2 vs the new iPad: Boot time test!

Here is a video showing the comparison between the boot time taken by each generation of the iPad. Surprisingly you will see that as the boot time slightly increases with each generation.

NOTE: The video is synced on the down click of the power button. The logos are supposed to appear at different times.

Does the slight increase in boot time affect you a lot?

How to Fix apps stuck on “Waiting…”

After updating to iOS 5.x from iTunes I’ve heard that some people were facing the issue of AppStore apps stuck on waiting for installation. I tried a few thing’s on my friend’s phone and after a few tries it finally worked, so here is a solution to fix this, technically it isn’t a fix but you can say so.

At first I tried the usual reboot and reinstall but that apparently did not work out so eventually I made way into iTunes to see if any podcasts or anything was stuck or if any huge download was stuck… while doing this I got the fix.

As of now I have found only one cause:

  • If you’ve got Automatic Downloads turned on, but have it disabled over 3G; new apps will appear on your springboard with ‘waiting’ until you connect to WiFi or delete them.

I have 3 suggestions for you:

  • Connect to a WiFi and then check if the apps bypass the waiting screen
  • Delete huge apps that provide hindrance to the installation
  • You should pause all the other downloads down to a single app

If the two mentioned up don’t work then you will have to manually delete and re-install all the applications one by one…. (pretty boring huh?)

So those are the solutions to the endless “Waiting…” label under an app.

Let me know which one worked for you in the comments section below.

How To By-Pass your iPhone Passcode

Today during a chat at the Freenode IRC channel #JailbreakQA we were talking about how vulnerable the iOS was, and one member today said, “The iOS is the easiest to hack”, naturally most of us disagreed but then today I found out about XRY, this is a new application which will allow you  to bypass your iPhone in many ways. One good and user-friendly thing is app provides is that, you can actually recover your iPhone Passcode if you happen to lose it due to bad memory. :P

Here is a video demonstration by Micro Systemation, the Swedish security company who has developed XRY.

A report was released which actually tells us how the firm did this, and to no surprise, these exploits are the same ones that the jailbreakers use to gain access to the iPhone’s file system and other things.

Let me know what you guys think about XRY in the comments section below.

A5 devices might be able to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 in the near future!

We have some good news for all of you with iPad 2′s and iPhone 4S’, as you all know if you accidentally updated to iOS 5.1 there was no chance for you to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and be jailbroken. iOS 5.1 is not even tethered jailbroken for A5 devices so that means you’d have to stay without a jailbreak, but now iH8sn0w, the creator of sn0breeze, iFaith and iReb, sheds some light on everyone and tells us about his latest achievement regarding downgrading.

iH8sn0w tweeted:

Found a loophole in Apple’s apticket system. Restored my iPad 2 to 5.0.1 from 5.1. Works on all A5 devices. :)

A5X devices will work too once Apple pushes a new firmware for it.

BTW, This cannot be applied to basebands. Only iOS itself.

As of now you can only downgrade iPhone 3GS’, iPhone 4′s and iPad 1′s to iOs 5.0.1 and that to by using the SHSH blobs saved by TinyUmbrella or TinyCFW.

With this discovery it means that the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 (powered by A5 chip) and the new iPad (powered by the A5X chip) will be able to downgrade to previous iOS versions for a stable untethered jailbreak, till the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is not released. This is a very big achievement as Apple had made it very difficult to downgrade to previous iOS versions.

As of now I believe you will need to have the SHSH blobs to downgrade to 5.0.1.

iH8sn0w has said that he will not shed any more light on this matter and will keep it confidential until he completes all his tests.

Are you one of those who accidentally updated to the worthless iOS 5.1?

The new iPad being shot, literally!

Every now and then we see some crazy stuff but this video completely re-defines craziness:

The guy actually shoots the new iPad with 3 different rifles and and tells us why was it not so damaged/damaged, if you still don’t believe me… go ahead check it out:

What Apple Says About The Overheating Of the new iPad

A lot of folks and bloggers have been picking on Apple because their new iPad gets heated up a lot. Well it was not going to go un-noticed by Apple, so according to Truddy Mullet (Apple’s representative):

“The new iPad ships with Retina Display, A5X processor, support for 4G LTE networks and not least with 10 hours of autonomy, however all these features are operating within Apple’s thermal specifications”.

Another thing mentioned is that if someone happens to get their iPad heated while just browsing the internet with apps such as Safari then he/she should contact AppleCare or  take their iPad down to the local Apple Store to get it replaced.

If we leave aside the isolated incidents on the internet then one thing comes in mind; folks over at Tweakers.net actually used an infrared camera to see the differences between the temperatures of the iPad 2 and the new iPad in GLBenchmark. In these scenarios the difference was of 5.3 degrees. They very neatly measyred the temperature and the bottom right corner where the processor is placed. Check the image below:

That being said, if the iPad 2 reaches a maximum of 28.3 degree celsius then the new iPad reaches to a maximum of 33,6 degrees.

So the only solution to the over-heating problem is to take your iPad to the Apple Store for a replacement.

Are you facing excessive heating problems with your new iPad?

Round-Up of All the Three Jailbreak Exploits…

If you’ve been following us for the past few hours you by now have known that there have been three jailbreak exploits by four different renowned developers/jailbreakers/hackers on the same day residing in three different locations.

All the posts might be clattering in your mind so I thought before ending the day I should write the summary of all the three posts.

First up: @MuscleNerd‘s exploit

He was the first one to jailbreak the new iPad with his own method. Here are the images:

Second: @i0n1c‘s exploit

He has been telling us that he has an exploit for the iOS 5.1 even before it was released and it seems those words were quite right because he posted a video of his untether jailbreak:

Third: @chpwn and @phoenixdev‘s exploit

They were the third and fourth people to find the third iPad 3 exploit and showed it off with these images:

Hang on! It’s not over yet I have some more good news from the Dev-Team Blog:

  • We can confirm that the method used to jailbreak the iPad2 4 months ago (before corona) still works even in 5.1.  That means we’ll at least be able to get our foot in the door to get the required kernel dumps on the iPad3.  That’s an important step, but by no means is it the end of the story.
  • Those of you following @i0n1c may have noticed he’s already tweeted pictures of his iPad2 jailbroken at 5.1.  As far as we know, he’s using a method completely unrelated to the one mentioned above.  That would be great news!
  • We’ve also seen bits and pieces of an entirely different jailbreak method being investigated by someone close to the Cydia repo scene.
There is also a caution note posted by MuscleNerd on the blog:

Don’t update your new iPad3 past whatever iOS it comes shipped with

By the way, it’s rare but entirely possible that some of you may find your iPad3 comes with an iOS version that’s not quite 5.1.

One last thing, in the midst of these three exploits everyone is forgetting pod2g, I think he will also come up with another exploit for an untether jailbreak.
Now that the exploits have been found all we have to do is wait for a public release of one of these or perhaps two of these or perhaps all three of them. I’am also expecting new jailbreak tools with these exploits.
So what do you guys have to say about March 16? (Pretty slick day huh?)

Another exploit for the new iPad…

Hot off the heals of MuscleNerd posting his images of the jailbroken iPad 3 came i0n1c’s jailbreak exploit with a video and a just a couple of minutes ago chpwn tweeted that he also managed to jailbreak his iPad 3 with another different exploit!

Having three different exploits I think the public release of the jailbreak should be imminent and should be in the near future.

Here are the images.. the third one is really beautiful:

I guess having three different exploits that to on the day of release is pretty amazing, looks like Apple’s engineers did a bad job this time.

Not to forget: Pod2G this time you got owned! :P

Whom do you think will release his jailbreak exploit first?

Do you think we’ll be seeing more jailbreak tools after 3 consecutive exploits?
