TinyUmbrella updated to 5.11.00b

Notcom a.k.a semaphore has released a new version of TinyUmbrella (5.11.00b) that allows iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to save SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1, that was released by Apple earlier in the week.

TinyUmbrella allows you to take backups of SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) that can be used to downgrade to older iOS versions even after Apple stops signing the iOS firmware file. It can come in handy if you end up accidentally upgrading to the latest version of iOS.

Until yesterday, it was possible to downgrade only iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 using the SHSH blobs saved using TinyUmbrella. But iPhone Dev team released a new version of Redns0w yesterday that also allows users to downgrade their iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3.

It’s very simple to save SHSH blobs. All you need to do is follow these steps:

  • Connect your iOS device to the computer
  • Install and then launch the latest version of TinyUmbrella (ensure it says v5.11.00 in the title)
  • Select your iOS device from the “Connected Devices” list
  • Then click on the “Save SHSH” button.

After the SHSH blobs are successfully saved, you should see your iOS device listed along with the iOS version that it is running on currently under the General section, which says Saved SHSHs.

Please note that your iOS device doesn’t need to be on iOS 5.1.1 to save SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1, so don’t waste any time and save the SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1. It also looks like Apple is still signing iOS 5.1 so you will be able to save SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1 as well, in case you haven’t save them already.

You can go ahead and download this new version of TinyUmbrella for Notcom’s blog: http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.in

Redsn0w Updated to 0.9.11b1

It’s here folks Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 is finally here. This version of Redsn0w will allow you to downgrade your A5 devices! :D So all you who have by mistake updated to iOS 5.1 will now be able to downgrade back to iOS 5.0.1 ONLY IF YOU HAVE YOUR SHSH BLOBS.

Here are some important points you need to note before attempting the tutorial below on how to downgrade your device:

  1. You cannot downgrade without the personalized SHSH blobs for your device at that lower firmware. You need to have fetched those blobs while the signing window was open, using either Cydia’s built-in TSS@Home feature, or with TinyUmbrella.  The new Restore screen of redsn0w lets you choose either the remote blobs or local ones (for the earlier firmware). If you don’t know where TinyUmbrella put your blobs, TinyUmbrella has a button that will show you (copy them out of that folder and feed them to redsn0w).
  2. The A5 downgrade method actually updates to the latest firmware before downgrading to the earlier one. This process updates your baseband to whatever is newest.DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU RELY ON UNOFFICIAL UNLOCKS of your iPhone4S.  Those who used the temporary SAM technique to unlock their iPhones to specific SIMs shouldn’t be affected by this baseband update.
  3. This method can be fixed by Apple with a firmware update.
  4. This update involves a bunch of new redsn0w code and so The Dev Team recommends sticking to the previous version 0.9.10b8b unless you’re specifically using this new feature, until all the bugs are worked out!

So here is how to downgrade your A5 device:

  1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 from our Downloads page.
  2. Fetch your blobs via Redsn0w or TinyUmbrella.
  3. Download the 5.0.1/5.1/5.1.1 firmware from our Download page.
  4. Put your device in DFU mode.
  5. Open Redsn0w > extras > Restore
  6. Now select the 5.0.1 firmware.
  7. Now choose the IPSW for the firmware you are on.
  8. You have to now choose whether to use “local” or “remote”.
  9. Now it will start downgrading your device.
  10. If you have done all the above steps correctly you should be able to downgrade your device.

And thats pretty much it folks! That is how easy it is to Downgrade your device.

Note: If you are getting any error in iTunes while downgrading you can check our iTunes help page.

Have you tried the downgrade method?

TinyUmbrella Updated to 5.10.15 With Minor Fixes

TinyUmbrella has been updated to version 5.10.15 fixing the bug in first gen iPads while saving SHSH blobs.

Notcom, the developer behind TinyUmbrella tool added the support just a few hours before Apple released iOS 5.1.1 firmware.

iPad first generation users who haven’t saved SHSH blobs yet must download the newest TinyUmbrella v5.10.15 right away. These backed up SHSH blobs will allow you to downgrade your firmware after a new iOS software update is released which will help you retain your jailbreak. Without having SHSH blobs, downgrading to old ipsw is not possible.

Unfortunately , at present there is no way to downgrade the iOS firmware on the iPhone 4S or the iPad 2 because Apple now signs the firmware during restore process. But it is always good to have your SHSH blobs saved.

You can download TinyUmbrella v5.10.15:

  1. TinyUmbrella [OSX]
  2. TinyUmbrella [WIN]

Have you saved your SHSH blobs yet?

A5 devices might be able to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 in the near future!

We have some good news for all of you with iPad 2′s and iPhone 4S’, as you all know if you accidentally updated to iOS 5.1 there was no chance for you to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and be jailbroken. iOS 5.1 is not even tethered jailbroken for A5 devices so that means you’d have to stay without a jailbreak, but now iH8sn0w, the creator of sn0breeze, iFaith and iReb, sheds some light on everyone and tells us about his latest achievement regarding downgrading.

iH8sn0w tweeted:

Found a loophole in Apple’s apticket system. Restored my iPad 2 to 5.0.1 from 5.1. Works on all A5 devices. :)

A5X devices will work too once Apple pushes a new firmware for it.

BTW, This cannot be applied to basebands. Only iOS itself.

As of now you can only downgrade iPhone 3GS’, iPhone 4′s and iPad 1′s to iOs 5.0.1 and that to by using the SHSH blobs saved by TinyUmbrella or TinyCFW.

With this discovery it means that the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 (powered by A5 chip) and the new iPad (powered by the A5X chip) will be able to downgrade to previous iOS versions for a stable untethered jailbreak, till the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is not released. This is a very big achievement as Apple had made it very difficult to downgrade to previous iOS versions.

As of now I believe you will need to have the SHSH blobs to downgrade to 5.0.1.

iH8sn0w has said that he will not shed any more light on this matter and will keep it confidential until he completes all his tests.

Are you one of those who accidentally updated to the worthless iOS 5.1?
